One of my favorite things about writing fiction is you can have as much fun with it as you like. At the same time, my desire for this project was that I wanted to write a story that is relatable to women. One that is based solely on fiction but has a realistic feel to it. Every woman’s story of heartbreak as it relates to relationships is different and may not have anything to do with her being the other woman at all. However, every woman knows what pain feels like as the result of a break-up. Now, those of us who have experienced our own versions of this story’s type of betrayal, will without a doubt be able to identify with what is happening here. Who was your “Myles” back in the day? The one who had you so hooked on him that you would’ve done anything to make each moment last a lifetime? The one whom it was hard for you to resist and say no to? The one you took a chance on by letting your guards down, only to be made a fool of? Here’s where I forewarn you ladies, that some of the content in this book may be triggering for you. It may cause some of your most painful memories to resurface. You know, the ones you thought you had dealt with and were gone forever. But trust me, this too shall pass!
Once Upon a Side Chick also showcases the lives of Kassie’s 3 best friends Drusilla, Trish, and Camille, and how their love and support ultimately helped to carry her through the devastation of her loss. I think you will also enjoy the plot these ladies hatched to get revenge on Kassie's ex. The closeness that these women share is just another good reason why women readers will enjoy this book. It brings to mind your closest friends who have been there for you when times were tough. No woman should have to face the effects of a traumatic experience alone. Unless she chooses to. But please don’t be fooled, having good people in your corner makes a big difference.
On the flip side, what if I told y’all one of Kassie’s friends was harboring a secret that ultimately resulted in yet another turn in the story? Hmm, bet you didn’t see that coming! Especially since I just bragged about the love and support her friends gave. Would you consider this person to still be your friend or foe? Guess you’re going to have to read the story to find out which friend it is and decide for yourself.
